Keep a few small tools nearby
The best tools are often the ones that disappear into the work.
Keep a few tools that do one thing well. A text editor you understand. A notebook that opens flat. A script whose entire behavior fits on one screen.
The point is not austerity. It is to spend less time negotiating with the tool and more time doing the work.
